TOOLKIT:
PROJECT PROPOSALWRITING
WHAT
IS THE PROJECT PROPOSAL WRITING TOOLKIT?
The
Project Proposal Writing Toolkit is a self-study programme that is based
on the best of 10 years' experience working with INGOs, NGOs, GOs and
IOs over hundreds of training courses. It's available as a PDF handbook
as well as a Standard Edition for convenient desktop study, and, for
larger organisations, the Trainer Edition is supported by a complete
Training Pack.
Included
in the Standard Edition is the entire programme as a PDF Ebook and the
Toolkit can be downloaded as soon as you order securely online. With
over 240 pages of explanations and tasks, it's complete. Whether you
use the Ebook only, or follow the steps using the Standard Edition,
you can learn the skills of proposal writing without stress or confusion.
This toolkit takes readers through the entire process of situation analysis,
setting objectives, designing a strategy and developing a Logical Framework;
as well as planning, drafting and editing an effective proposal.
Project
Proposal Writing takes the best of ELD's wide experience and puts the
skills of developing winning proposals into the hands of development
workers worldwide. This toolkit enables you to become a 'problem solver'
who can:
- Objectively
analyse the existing situation and identify the root causes of problems
- Set
appropriate and achievable objectives
- Develop
a Logical Framework
- Plan
the proposal
- Communicate
your proposal to donors clearly and effectively
What
you can expect from this toolkit is to:
- Develop
your ability to investigate problems, analyse alternative strategies
and plan a relevant course of action
- Develop
your ability to organise these ideas in a suitable format for potential
donors
- Understand
the principles of how to write an effective proposal, considering
the reader's / donor's point of view
- Develop
a thorough understanding of your own project concept so that you can
justify it to potential stakeholders
- Learn
a methodical approach to developing proposals
WHAT'S
IN THE TOOLKIT?
The
Toolkit is spread over 9 easy-to-follow modules that cover ALL the steps
of the project planning and proposal writing process.
Module
One - Introduction - discusses why many proposals fail and focuses
the user on the being a problem solver rather than a grantseeker.
Module
Two - The Logical Framework Approach: Analysis - introduces the
Logical Framework and LFA, and takes users through the analysis steps
of the approach - Situation Analysis, Stakeholder Analysis, Setting
Objectives and Designing a Strategy.
Module
Three - The Logical Framework Approach: Planning - takes the analysis
into planning, setting the project's Goal and Outcomes and defining
its Operations - Outputs, Activities and Inputs. The module also covers
Risk Analysis and Risk Management as well as looking at project Monitoring
and Evaluation.
Module
Four - Planning the Proposal - teaches users the Mind Mapping approach
to successfully manage and organise ideas prior to the drafting stage.
Module
Five - Writing Skills: Principles - is the first writing skills
component and explores the concept of Professional Writing. The module
looks at common problems related to writing proposals, and finishes
up with the Writing Process - a four-step approach to writing of Analysis,
Planning, Drafting and Editing which saves times and improves results.
Module
Six - Writing Skills: Clarity - is the second writing skills component
and investigates how to get your message across and improve the impact
of your writing. The module demonstrates how to measure how clear your
writing is and gives you some simple, effective tools for improving
the power of your sentences.
Module
Seven - Writing Skills: Organisation - presents the deductive /
Inverted Pyramid approach to organising writing, before looking at the
various ways to present the main points. The second half of the module
deals specifically with organising persuasive paragraphs that synthesise
interpretation as well as supporting ideas, examples and evidence.
Module
Eight - Putting it all Together - takes the practical work to a
new level. The analysis and the plan, together with the writing skills
are applied to develop a draft proposal. This module is almost entirely
task-based, walking readers step-by-step through the drafting process.
Module
Nine - Writing Style & Editing Skills - completes the programme,
covering Style & Language, the Editing Process and Design &
Layout.

THE
TRAINER EDITION: BUILD THE SKILLS OF YOUR TEAM - FLEXIBLY AND AFFORDABLY
With
the Trainer Edition you can conveniently reinforce the lessons in the
toolkit through structured, well-planned sessions for your staff. For
a fraction of the cost of sending your team on training, you can pass
on the benefits of ELD's years' of experience through this 'workshop-in-a-box'.
Conducting
structured training will help you increase the impact of the programme
and make sure all staff acquire the skills of proposal writing. The
Toolkit's nine modules are packaged as a 30-hour training programme
which can be delivered in one intensive course or spread out over as
many days as you wish.
As
well as convenience, the low cost of the Trainer Edition compares favourably
to the expense of sending even one participant on a 5-day training course
- a big advantage when budgets are under pressure.
The
pack includes slide-by-slide notes, tips on preparation and delivery
and course monitoring & evaluation tools. Any trainer with good
people management skills can facilitate this straightforward programme.
There are over 250 PowerPoint slides, providing powerful visual support
to the learning activities and discussion. Participant handouts are
ready to print, and ordering a Licence + Trainer Edition means all your
team will have access to the full Handbook and Standard Edition for
reference and self-study. Included also are supplementary materials
- daily feedback forms, evaluation form and task handouts.
